Opening a shop involves many suppliers: banks or payment companies for collections, telecom providers for internet, and POS suppliers for checkout. Different monthly charges, transaction rates and contracts make individual enquiries time-consuming and hard to compare.

We offer a one-stop merchant service to compare and apply for different providers' plans. Below are some brands covering broadband, payments and merchant services. Ask about bundled offers.

  • One contact to compare multiple providers
  • Combined quotations for payments, connectivity and POS
  • Document assistance and application and installation follow-up

Payment partners: cards, UnionPay and Octopus

Visa / Mastercard: card acceptance

Visa and Mastercard are major global card networks and among the most widely accepted credit and debit cards in Hong Kong. The networks do not supply terminals directly. Their guidance directs merchants to an acquirer , such as a bank or payment service provider, to apply for a merchant account.

Choosing a terminal therefore means comparing acquirers' transaction fees, monthly charges, settlement and support. We can help; see card terminal and business bank-account services and six key card terminal comparisons .

UnionPay: card acceptance

UnionPay International reports acceptance in 183 countries and regions. Almost all merchants and ATMs in Hong Kong and Macau support UnionPay, with over 30 million cards issued locally. It is important for tourist-area shops, restaurants, jewellers, watch retailers and pharmacies serving mainland visitors and local cardholders.

For UnionPay, international cards and wallets on one terminal, explore Allinpay .

Octopus: merchant payments

Octopus reports more than 36 million cards and products in circulation, nearly 210,000 Hong Kong acceptance points, and 98% penetration among residents aged 15–64. Merchants can choose OR 3.0, POP 2.0 or the business app.

For fees, new-merchant offers and reader applications, see Octopus electronic payment services .

Other acquiring and electronic payment options

  • Allinpay : combines Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club / Discover, UnionPay, WeChat Pay and Alipay
  • mobile payment app : remote collection and online payments for beauty salons, travel agents, furniture shops and jewellers
  • Bank merchant card terminals : acquiring plans from ICBC, Global Payments and others; ask when requesting a quotation

Telecom and broadband partners: business connectivity

Reliable connectivity underpins terminals, Octopus readers, cloud POS, delivery platforms and customer Wi-Fi. First check which providers cover your building, then compare speed, monthly charges, contract length and repair support.
